I was anticipating the performance of New Orleans Jazz icon, Ellis Marsalis at the PJF on Thursday night, Jan 14, 2010, and he did not disappoint. I had already seen Wynton, Branford, Defayo and Jason in concert. This was my first time seeing the family patriarch.
A long time supporter of the PJF, this was Mr. Marsalis's first
visit to the event.
We know that Ellis Marsalis is a magnificent teacher and mentor of young Jazz talent. His presence enhanced and underscored the festivals goals.
The Trio's rendition of, "Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans", drew a standing ovation from the packed house at the Teatro Anayansi Atlapa located in the San Francisco section of Panama City.
It was truly a night I will remember.
